I am so lucky that I have a sister that is willing to trade kids, well before she had her own, so Anthony and I can have some alone time. The same holds true when it's their turn too. This year the boys had a great time swimming and playing with their best buddy and cousin Cody and his sister Ellie. I am so glad that my little sweeties love Randi's little angels as much as I do!

Waffle Love
Randi drug me to some event called "junk in the trunk" early on a Saturday to do a little shopping. I didn't find much to buy, but I did have my first Liege Waffle from the Waffle Love truck. It was super delicious and I will defiantly have one again!

Lucky Ducks
Randi had a huge "stringer" at work that called for a lot of over time. Over time for mama means fun with Aunt Chelle for her kids.
Today we were lucky enough to go to Peter Piper for Pizza and games and we had a surprise visit from Nana and Raelynn.
Just so happened that Ellie, Cody and Nana were all lucky ducks in yellow! Special memories like this can't be planned we are just blessed with them.

Sunset Crater and The Grand Canyon
Day two of our get away entailed a lot more driving, but we were headed to the Grand Canyon and we were excited. Jake had a special pass that entitled all 4th graders in the country and their families to go to any National Park or Monument for free for the entire year and we wanted to take advantage.
Along our way we saw signs for Sunset Crater, so we decided to stop. We took the full loop detour through Sunset Crater National Park and Wapatki National Monument all free of charge thanks to Jake.
Anthony loves rocks and was very interested in all the cool lava rock. We hiked around the trails a bit to look at the full beauty.
This mountain with crater in the top is the actual site of the volcano.
As you leave the lush forest and head toward the Wapatki Monument, the landscape changes immensely.
Flat Barron lands dotted with rock mountains filled the distance. We were able to learn about the ancient people who lived here before and hike to Wukoki, one of the old homes that the Native Americans built here 1000s of years ago.
We continued on 87 toward the Grand Canyon. We were able to drive through some more beautiful land was we passed the Little Colorado River. When we made it, we were awed.
It had been more than 20 years since Anthony and I had been there, way back when I went to NAU. It was just as beautiful now.
We climbed up and observed from the watch tower before we drove along the road toward the main entrance.
When we made it and parked, we found some elk drinking from the water bottle fill up station. They were close enough to touch and many people were.
We enjoyed the scenery for a while before we ate a late lunch. We were ready to head back to Flagstaff, but not before we stopped for a heard of elk.
We followed a rainbow or multiple rainbows the entire drive south to I-40. We had a little bit of rain at the Grand Canyon that lead to a beautiful sky on the way home.
The weekend was perfect. One of my favorites that I will always cherish.

Fishing and Deer Farm Experience
We wanted to get out of the hot weather, so we headed up to Flagstaff where Betsy and John Trombino let us use their wonderful condo. Derek wanted to stay home and fish with Jordan so we just had the 2 younger boys.
Carsen and Jake wanted to try a little fishing. We spent a couple hours the first day at some small lakes in Williams. They only caught one little fish, they but had fun and weren't discouraged.
After fishing the boys were excited to spot some wild life. Carsen had a good eye and was able to point out the deer to the rest of us.
We also visited the "Deer Farm" near Flagstaff off of I-40.
It was a small zoo, but you could get up close and personal to every one of the animals. We were able to feed the deer and they followed us all over the farm.
We saw this strange reindeer, a camel, a wallaby and a cool Llama, among other things.
We had a very fun time there together.
