Summer 2013 Road Trip Day 8: RMNP & Estes Park

Wednesday we returned to Estes Lake RMNP.  The boys wanted to do more fishing.  I was happy to sit and read while they fished.  The weather was cool and the scenery was beautiful.

All the boys had lots of bites on their lines, but Carsen was the only one with a true catch.  He caught a Rainbow Trout all by himself from start to finish.  We were all very proud of him.

In the late afternoon we headed back into the park, but first needed a snack.  We stopped at a place called "You Need Pie" and ate some fantastic homemade desserts. We all ate our fill!  In the park I wanted to visit the Fall River Water Fall.  Once we parked the car it was only a short hike away.

Derek didn't join us at first, but eventually he gave in and joined the fun.

Carsen and Jake took off their shoes to wade in the freezing cold water.

They skipped rocks and looked for fish and minnows, until we decided to look for another water source.

We continued up the road until we found some empty camp sites.  Here we parked and walked along the river to see if there was a spot deep enough to fish.

We didn't find a fishing hole, but we found a lot of cool places for pictures!

Just before sunset we found a spot in the river that was deep enough to fish.

Derek & Carsen got out to fish, but I took Jake & Sydney to the end of the road  where we watched a mother deer and her 2 fawn eat and play in the grass.

We left the park a little disappointed in the number of animals we had seen, but we loved the experience overall.  It was a beautiful part of this country that I hope to be able to explore more of someday!
