For Carsen and Jake's birthday the boys and I played hookie and headed off to the Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium. We got there right after it opened, which was nice because we had the front parking spot. The zoo was nice and quiet as we meandered around looking at whatever we wanted. No crowds, no rush, no time lines.
We started in the aquariums so we could see the first penguin feeding. While we waited, we saw the otters and Jake wanted a picture for Nana Carlys.
The boys ran from tank to tank so excited about all the different kinds of fish. Jake wasn't too interested in touching the sea urchins, star fish or sting rays (I think Sydney has brain washed him while babysitting). Carsen and Derek both loved every moment.
After the aquarium we headed to the petting zoo with a brief stop at the playground.
Jake was happy to exit the goat/deer/chicken poop area and pet the nice, dry, clean tortoises. Again, Carsen was happy to pet and feed all the smelly animals.
The boys then insisted on the very exciting pontoon boat ride around the Kangaroo area.
They like anything to do with water and I was interested to learn that baby kangaroos were born about the size of a quarter and stay in the pouch for 8-12 months after they are born (or something like that).
Our next ride was the carousel as we waited for Derek to come out of the very nasty smelling nursery.
After meandering around to see the various animals we ended up at my favorite place, the giraffes.
I hate to feed them and be licked myself, but I love to watch the boys.
Especially Carsen.
He loved to feed them.
He even collected the fallen food off the ground to give them the maximum amount of food possible.
\Jake tried over and over. He really wanted to feed them, but he was just so nervous.
Finally he did it! He was brave and fed the giraffe. And we loved it.
We had an excellent time at the zoo. The weather was perfect and the boys were great.
