Maddox to Montana

We knew our time in Utah would eventually have to end, but it came so fast.  We had a wonderful stay with Aunt Mary Ellen and Uncle Eric.  They were so kind to us and my boys had the best time playing with all their grandchildren.  They still ask when they can go back to Utah to play with their cousins.

Randi, Mike, Sydney and Billy joined our trek North in Lehi.  We all said our goodbyes to the Ferrins and drove toward West Yellowstone, Montana.

Our first detour of the day was down "Fruit Way"  We stopped at several fruit stands looking for fresh produce.  We were 2 weeks early for corn and peaches, but we did get a few cherries.  At the end of the road we stopped at a little restaurant called Maddox.  We took our second detour here for lunch.  That place has the most delicious homemade rolls and whipped raspberry butter in the world.  I ate it until I was sick and skipped my lunch.  It was divine.

After lunch we continued North until we hit Blackfoot, Idaho.  This was our third detour as we planned to have a guided tour of the very small town and the cemetery with Grumpaw.  The first house we saw belonged to my Dad's Uncle Buzz and Aunt Johnnie.  The second house belonged to my great grandparents.  This is where my grandma Joyce lived when she was sent out to Howe to work and met my grandfather,Tuffy.

We also went to the cemetery.  My Dad's father Everette Lyle Rodgers (Tuffy) was killed on Iwo Jima in World War II.  His body was returned and buried here, next to his infant son who had died from an obstructed bowel.  We saw many other Rodgers family graves, including Buzz and Johnnie who were so loved by my father.

One final thing we couldn't pass up in Blackfoot was the GIANT potato outside the potato museum.  It was so funny that we had to stop for a couple photos.

With all our stops complete, we finally made it to West Yellowstone in time for dinner.
