The baseball season is finally over. After spending all day, every Saturday, for the past 2 months and numerous hours during the week, we are finally done with the Fall season. The feeling is bitter sweet. I love to watch all my boys play, but I have so much to do!
Jake was on coach pitch with Coach Brian Beam. Brian was an excellent coach and we hope to have him again in the fall. Jake loved every single moment of baseball and would have loved to play all day, everyday. He woke up early every Saturday to get his uniform on. Even if his game was hours away, he wanted to be ready. He never took his uniform off until bedtime. Not the cleats, not the belt, not the hat. He loved it! His favorite position was first base and he hit so well, when he watched the ball. His nickname was "Jake, watch the ball, Richards" His coach reminded him each time he got up to bat to watch the ball all the way to the bat.
Carsen spent his first season on kid pitch and his last season with his 8 season coaches and team. It is finally time to move on to the big leagues or maybe try a different sport. Carsen was an excellent short stop and a hitting machine, but he gets "too bored" playing baseball. We will see how this plays out in the Spring.
Derek was with a couple of the kids from his Spring Majors team and one of the assistant coaches. He was an allstar catcher and became an excellent hitter as well. Derek was born to play sports and I love to watch him. I am not the only one. Two of the other 3 coaches complemented Derek throughout the season on his skills and his sportsmanship. They offered to give him one of their jerseys every chance they got. Derek was able to get several outs at home this season. During one, he literally knocked down a boy, twice his size while he was protecting home plate after catching a ball thrown in from the out field. During the last game he was sent flying when another boy was running to home for a homerun. He runner put down his shoulder and elbow and rammed down Derek after he had caught the ball and was about to tag him out. After flying through the air and landing hard, Derek's little arm came up and he still had the ball. The runner was OUT! Derek's coach ran over and picked Derek up over his head. He was so proud of Derek and so were we. Before the coach went back into the dug out, he picked Derek up again and kissed him on the forehead. What a fun way to end the season.
| the kid up to bat is actually the kid that unsuccessfully tried to knock Derek out |
