Carsen was so lucky this year because he was able to spend an extra week at the beach with Nana, Grumpaw, Raelynn, Hayden (& family), Emily and Bella. They went a week ahead of us so we thought that it would be easy enough to get Carsen back. Well, it ended up a little crazy because Nana's car had to go to LA to drop off the girls with Ryan and Regina's family had to leave first thing in the morning to get home and ready to leave on trek. Our car left promptly at 8 am with plans to meet the Grossarth van as we headed West and they headed East. After a little confusion and 1 u-turn, we were reunited with Carsen and continued on to the beach. Randi, Mike & Cody were a few hours behind us, but we all made it to IB safely.
My first order of business was Costco and the grocery store. Anthony's was unpacking the car. Derek's was to take the boys fishing on the pier. He and Anthony had made this cool rod holder to carry all the gear out to the pier.
Once Randi's group got settled, we needed dinner. Mike clearly took care of that for most of us. Most of the free world could have eaten this huge pizza, but we decided to pig out instead.
Derek provided his own dinner, fresh from the pier.
The first night of the trip was the last night of the grunion run. Derek was sure that he was going to participate. Carsen had caught grunion the night before with Nana, so he really didn't care. Jake had never done it so he was excited for this new adventure. The down side was the window of opportunity to catch the grunion was 12am to 2am. At 11pm I found Derek and Jake both fast asleep.
Carsen, on the other hand, was out at the beach with Uncle Mike and Anthony until after 2am.
