We started out on June 28 and headed West with Rodica, her 2 girls and 1 niece. Not long past Gila Bend our little caravan passed Regina and her little burgundy minivan.
We laughed and giggled, via phone, about our little caravan the rest of the way to San Diego. Rodica and I stayed with our kids in the 2 bedroom beach apartment, just behind the beach house. It had a great view of the whole area.
Once we were settled Regina and I headed to Costco for our weeks food. While I was gone Rodica started cooking the food that she had brought. It was yummy! Trent also slowly made his way to the beach after picking up Brooklyn in at LAX on her return from Australia!
Not only was Regina's family there in the beach house, so were Nana, Grumpaw, Raelynn and Ryan's girls. They were all squeezed into the beach hut. The party was on! We had a constant flow of kid traffic and it was wonderful.
We enjoyed time at the beach and the kids played lots of games together.
Everyday Raelynn came over about 11:00am to do her work, while I scrapbooked, at the table.
On July 3, we sadly said goodbye to Rodica, but hello to Ryan, Michelle and Roy. On July 4, we had a fun time with multi-family BBQ and fireworks on the pier.

After the show on the pier, Troy Grossarth helped us set off some awesome fireworks that we brought from home. The kids loved them.
On Saturday, things shifted again. Nana, Grumpaw and Raelynn left, as did Ryan and his family. Regina and her family moved back to the beach apartment with me, while the Grossarths moved into the beach house and the beach hut.
On this trip I learned of a thing called "snap chat" from Brooklyn. Although we lived together, we sent each other the funniest picture messages back and forth multiple times throughout the day. I almost peed my pants on multiple occasions. I love that girl. She is so funny!
On Monday, July 7, we caravanned with Grossarth's to La Jolla to see the tidal pools. We had a bit of a parking debacle, but it was still beautiful nevertheless. The boys got to see small sea snails, small fish and sea anemone.
After the beach we went to the most delicious burger place, "Hodads" at Ocean Beach. After waiting in line for almost an hour, we ordered our food to go and headed back to the beach house. The wait was way too long, but the burgers were amazingly delicious!!!
Once back at the beach, the kids went out to boogie board and play in the sand.
Tuesday, July 8, Trent left for home/work very, very early. The kids had a little crazy time while Regina and I made mini cards like crazy.
Wednesday night we had a surprise visitor arrive.
Aunt Robyn was in town on business and she couldn't resist the big fun! She brought me a box of see's mint truffles and all the kids big suckers. We were all thrilled!
Regina was surprised to find us in bed with a big box of donuts and Diet Dr. Pepper Double Gulps.
What can we say? If you can't beat'em, join'em.
After a lot of laughter and crumbs we got ready and did a little school shopping with Brooklyn. We are glad she decided to come because we had a great time and found some cute shoes!
Friday came all too fast and Robyn had to fly home, but not before Randi, Mike, Anthony and Cody arrived. They got a couple minutes to hug before she had to get to the airport.
On Saturday, we had another day of transition. Most of the Grossarth's loaded up and went home. Regina's family stayed in the beach apartment and she was joined by Michelle Duncan and boys. Anthony and I moved with our boys to the beach house and Randi and Mike's family moved into the beach hut.
Not long after our move we had more visitors! Marie, Randall and Becca came down for a BBQ lunch and visit. We had a wonderful time visiting and munching. I love being able to spend time with them.
Sunday July 13, brought us another set of visitors. Kristi, Nick and Ryan Hawkins came down to the beach for a visit. They just moved to the LA area and we were so excited that they were close enough to come down!
They stayed at the new hotel at the end of the block so we were able to take the kids down to the pool and hot tub for a swim. The following day we headed to Sea World!
(That will be it's own post)
The rest of the week I spent time reading and enjoying the weather and family.
Anthony took the boys out to fly the kite one day. They all had a good time.
Derek spent the entire 3 weeks out on the pier. He caught so many creatures. He must have spent 12-15 hours a day fishing every single day, except July 4, when the pier was closed.
Carsen and Jake also spent a lot of time out fishing on the pier. They were more of Derek's errand boys as Carsen would walk all the way back in to pick up food, drinks and bait at Derek's request. On our last night, Derek was out fishing with his pier friends until midnight. When he came back in I could tell something was wrong. I was right. Derek had accidentally dropped his cell phone into the ocean. That was sad for everyone.
Our last day in San Diego should have been short, but we were able to spend an extra day watching a professional sand castle building contest. While we were watching we saw a pod of dolphin playing right out in the surf in front of the beach house. It was amazing, but very hard to catch on camera!
We watched dolphins and sand castles, while loaded the cars, off and on for hours.
(I think I will post all the pictures on another blog)
When we had seen the final products, we loaded into the car and headed toward home. We were all sad to leave the beach. It went by too fast!
