Derek had a program this year in 5th grade for science and social studies called "Adopt a Pilot".
They had an Air Force Pilot come in and teach them about planes, principals of flying, calculating speeds and distances, and the phonetic alphabet. He liked the program and it ended with a field trip to Luke Air Force Base.
Derek was lucky enough to take a camera so he could take some pictures of the planes and some videos of the planes taking off and landing. The two boys above are Aaron & Brodie. These boys are twin brothers and the Derek's best friends this year.
My boy was smart enough to have Brodie take his picture in front of his favorite plane. He liked all of the WWII planes the best. Just like his Dad.
They got to check out some of the planes up close and personal. This is the cockpit of an F-16.
He was also very interested in the heat seeking missles. Who wouldn't be?
He had a great time and enjoyed not being in class, at a desk, doing math.
(This was all the info Derek provided. I felt lucky that he shared this much. After all I was invited to, "Please stay home from the field trip, because there are too many volunteers." Um sure.)
haha...too many volunteers!! You couldn't have gone anyway with your shadow and all. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad D had fun...and glad he got to skip some math. :)
