SAC to the Redwood Forest, PSC NW 3/12

After very bitter sweet goodbyes, we sadly drove away from the Rodgers' home toward the Redwood Forest.  For the last 2 years the boys have talked about their last visit there with Nana & Grumpaw and wanted to return.  This trip was going to be much shorter, with far less detail, but we were going to do it any way.

Much to our dismay, our truck still didn't fit through the drive-thru tree.  We settled for some pictures as we drove through the "avenue of the giants" looking for our familiar hiking trail down to the Eel River.

We knew the spot as soon as we saw it!  The boys changed into their swim suit and Derek grabbed his fishing rod.

The boys were a a little too preoccupied with the outcome to enjoy the journey.  Making them stop for a couple pictures was pure torture.  For all of us!

But we made it.  The Beautiful Eel river was much more shallow than on our 2010 visit, but the boys still had a great time.

Little ones waded and swam,

while the big one fished.  I was so amazed that he knew how to set up his fly rod all on his own.  He looked like a little professional out there throwing his fly.

We had a wonderful afternoon in this most beautiful piece of America.

The boys could have stayed forever, but we had to continue on to our hotel reservation in Eureka.

Once at the hotel we went swimming and relaxed in the hot tub.  When we got out we wandered over to Marie Calendars for dinner.  It was delicious, but wouldn't have been complete without pie to go.  The boys each ordered a piece of pie and I ordered a whole Sour Cream Lemon Pie.  I have been craving one ever since they went out of business in Arizona.

Man that was a delicious treat to splurge on while we watched TV and ate ice in bed!
